This was our 4th Murder mystery party from Nightofmystery and our biggest by far. We had 35 characters!
We planned on throwing this party last year to celebrate the return of the 20’s, but we all know what changed that! We didn’t want to do a virtual party so we decided to wait. We knew we were going with Murder at the Juice Joint and we took advantage of the extra time to work on our party decor.
My husband went to work on his now famous party props. Pinterest has such great ideas he was able to replicate.
He made a fake entrance we put at the start of our walkway and lined the walk with brick backdrop, making our guests had to use the “secret entrance” to the Juice Joint. He replaced our screen door with a cardboard sheet painted to look like a steel door with a peep slot. We messaged our guests earlier in the week to give them the secret password to get in.
We moved all of our furniture out so we could create a swanky speakeasy for our guests.I greeted them with their A envelopes and name badges at the door. I used small fabric money bags for the “envelopes” and purchased fake $50.00 bills to use in place of the mystery money included in the party download. The guests loved it!
We printed out the celebrity photos and had those on the wall at the entrance along with some “booze boxes” stacked by a whiskey barrel table my husband made out of cardboard and wood.
We covered the walls in our living room with black and gold column backdrop and set up our jazz band silhouettes the hubby made. He also made a giant arch display we set up for photos. We used plastic drop cloth sprayed gold to hang behind it, it was the focal point in our living room and made for some great pictures. He even made a violin case to hide a Tommy gun in!
I bought a bar backdrop on Amazon and hung it behind the table we set as the bar. It looked like an actual bar, especially in pictures! I printed several cocktail recipes that were popular in the 20’s and made a punch as well.
We set a canopy up on our back deck and called it out flapper lounge. We covered the chairs with black chair covers and white and black table covers. I used black Eiffel Tower vases with white and black feathers for centerpieces .
My husband made a couple of amazing car props that we set up in the yard. Everyone had so much fun with them!
We ordered appetizers and desserts from appetizersusa.com. They ship them frozen and are quick and easy to cook.Everyone did a great job on their costumes and looked amazing! Our cigarette girl sold candy cigarettes all night and took home the best costume prize.
I gave moonshine along with a flask and chocolate guns for prizes.
Looking forward to planning the next party.. Patty Kummer Dartmouth,Ma.
